The New World of Digitalization- Good or Bad?

Without a doubt, our lives have become quite easy with Digitalization and many other advancements in technology. But have you ever thought about the fact that all of this advancement might be taking over our lives?

We are one click away from connecting to anyone around the world or buying our favorite dress, but at the same time, we are always on our mobile phones/Laptops avoiding any possible social contact with the real world. Completing our assignments and homework has become easy as every piece of information has now been made available for use on the Internet but eliminated the fun of going to a Library and reading various books just to find that one piece of information. Animated Games are fun but what about going out and playing Hide-and-Seek and our favorite childhood games with our friends? Attending classes online and educating our children online, missing out on all the fun of making new friends and going out for Momos treat. There are many such examples of how Digitalization is slowly taking over our lives.

But the real question is do we want this to happen? Do we want some kind of technology to control our lives and mood?

                                                                                           KAHA GAYE WOH DIN?

Kaha Gaye Woh Din.. when life was simple and technology free. The main reason for the booming of Digitalization is Covid-19. Due to Covid outburst, everything was made available online, people started Work from Home, ordering groceries online with the help of companies like Blinkit and Instamart, and educating ourselves and our children online. During Lockdown our life was surrounded by Digitalization- watching Netflix 24/7, playing Ludo online with our family and friends, people were hooked to their Mobile Phones and Television. Our mood depended upon whether or not our favorite show was streaming on Television.

And now, when things are getting normal and back on track, people are facing problems getting their faces out of their mobile phones. The past two years have converted people into some kind of robots who are fine interacting with others on Social Media platforms but suffer from anxiety when it comes to interacting face-to-face with them. This is the level of impact digitalization has made over our lives, it has managed to control our mood, and our life choices by easily getting influenced by whatever we see online.

But at the same time, we cannot ignore the fact that Digitalization has also kept us sane during the tough time of Covid-19, it diverted people’s minds from that horror, and it helped many people to financially survive by showcasing their business online- so many new businesses boomed by just forwarding their messages on Whatsapp or Instagram. It was like the World was connected by a thread of Digitalization where people came forward to help each other- whether it was for finding an oxygen cylinder, hospital bed, medicines, or even just for entertaining those who were going through a tough time.

Just like everything else, Digitalization also has a good side and a bad side, the choice is yours, whether you want to experience the Good side or the Bad side!

It comes down to individual choice where each person learns and finds to create the right amount of balance between the Reel World and the Real World.

The world of Digitalization is like any other form of addiction, once hooked to it, people often find it difficult to come out of it. Look at Today's generation, they are so attached to their iPads and other sources of technology that they can’t even digest their meal without them or even sit still for some time.

Is this the life we want to give to our future generations? or do we want them to go out, play, and socialize with their friends as we did?

Now comes the Main Question- How can we create that right balance between the Reel World and the Real World?

Just like we stick to our Diet Schedule or our Gym Schedule, we also have to come up with a new Schedule, which I like to call, The Tech Schedule. Just like we are so into maintaining healthy Diet Charts and counting our Calories, we must also plan our interaction with technology to maintain healthy and peaceful mindset timers on all our social media apps and stick to them, take out time for our Grandparents, Parents, Friends and go out with them or just spend time with them. The goal should be to make Real memories and not Reel memories. Getting off the grid for some time and just being present in the moment, looking at the sky directly and not through some camera lens, wouldn’t that look nice and beautiful for once?

We must start now with some baby steps so that we can live a better tomorrow as Humans and not some Robots who are being controlled by technology.
